My story "The Hedgehog and the Pine Cone," which came out last autumn in the "Animals" issue of Lackington's, is now available to read online.

It feels somewhat strange to post about something unrelated to politics these days.

Meanwhile, this week I am listening to Slim Gaillard for the first time in years, and I highly recommend it.

Stay warm, friends in the path of the snow!

Nah, I think it's good for the sanity. I'm about to try the same myself.

At least there's some good political news this afternoon (the 9th Circuit maintaining the suspension of the travel ban)!

That is great! I hadn't heard. Hah.

Also I don't think I remembered to mention that the story is very good; the story is very good. I like your fiction. Can I encourage you to write more of it?

I really liked your story! Especially I liked the way things just were, so amazing and yet taken so simply for themselves by wondering Purple. And I'm glad that she held on for Green.

Congratulations! I've got it in an open tab for later reading.

Just read it now--very touching. To me, it felt like a story about depression and being a friend to someone through bouts of depression. I liked the repetition of the part about the small words and then the larger ones, circumstance, loyalty, grief and surprise. The second time around I thought how they work for when we're confronted with a friend's pain and absence (literal or figurative).
