It occurs to me that the Philip Townsend story must have been The Doctors' attempt to copy Dark Shadows (which had recently done a very successful kidnapping-to-a-spooky-house/doppelganger story, though the kidnapper was a tormented vampire played by another stage actor, Jonathan Frid). If you ever wanted to dip your toe into classic soaps, Dark Shadows would be an obvious choice.
