but I wanted heirloom tomatoes!

I'd toyed with the idea of going shopping in Glendale today (Gap and the new Lush store in the Galleria), but since I'm getting up super early tomorrow morning and going to San Diego Comic Con, I opted for a quiet day in the neighborhood. I went to Trader Joe's (where they were out of full-sized heirloom tomatoes, woe) and finished reading Jo Walton's Ha'Penny, which I liked even better than Farthing (despite a few heavy-handed moments). I will certainly pick up Half a Crown when it comes out this fall.

Now to do some noveling (chapter six Jo book revisions) before dinner...

one armed superman defeated by one unarmed decadent democrat

It was kinda great watching The 49th Parallel the same day I finished reading Ha'Penny. Sort of an anti-Nazi double feature.

Leslie Howard got top billing in The 49th Parallel, even though he's only in the film for about 20 minutes (half as long as Laurence Olivier). But it was a great 20 minutes. And a terrific film...
