A very happy birthday to
scarlettgirl!! It was so great to see you at
writercon, notably at the Doctor Who fangirl meeting (and, of course, when you were doing the supportive hand-holding/drink-buying thing during the pitch sessions!). You rock. Hope to see you again soon!
Speaking of Doctor Who, last night I finally watched Revelation of the Daleks. I don't know what I was expecting - I guess something along the lines of Resurrection of the Daleks - but I sure wasn't expecting dark humor. (I guess I was expecting a large bodycount, which the ep delivered massively.) I also wasn't expecting Alexei Sayle, much less Alexei Sayle killing Daleks with a beam of concentrated rock'n'roll! (Or something.) Anyway, he was fab as the DJ. Also fab were Eleanor Bron and that actress who played Ruby on Upstairs/Downstairs. Quite a shocking moment when she (the Ruby actress) kills the man she loves (ostensibly because Davros tells her to, but really because the guy rejects her).
Weirdly, the Daleks were almost background characters in the story, and not particularly scary. What WAS scary (and gross) was the girl's father who was being turned into a Dalek. Yikes! If I'd been a kid watching that ep, that would have sent me scurrying behind a sofa.
Peri had a better outfit than in the other eps of hers I've seen, but her American accent continued to suck.
Overall, I really loved this one, and may end up buying the DVD...
