of actors and radicals
Dec. 13th, 2008 02:40 pmA very happy birthday to
viciouswishes,
tithenai, and
seajules!!!
One of the fun things about the novel I'm writing is that I can read a trashy book like Soap Opera Babylon: The Shocking True Stories Behind the Lives of the Stars (1987) and justify it as research. It has chapter titles like "Backstage Bitchery and Blind Ambition" and "Backstage Affairs."
Other books I own for novel research:
Big Lou: The Life & Career of Actor Louis Edmonds, by Craig Hamrick (soap actor bio)
Grayson Hall: A Hard Act to Follow, by R.J. Jamison (soap actor bio)
Dark Shadows Memories, Kathryn Leigh Scott
Soap Opera, by Eileen Fulton (novel by long-time soap actress)
Outlaws of America: The Weather Underground and the Politics of Solidarity, by Dan Berger
Fugitive Days: Memoirs of an Antiwar Activist, by Bill Ayers (who is probably really happy the election is over)
Flying Close to the Sun by Cathy Wilkerson (also of the Weather Underground)
Actors and radicals!!! It's the combination of the two (plus a pissed-off ghost) that makes this novel interesting to me...but it's no wonder I've had such a hard time coming up with a title for the book. I'm working on chapter eleven, but I need to do some thinking/planning/online researching before I go full steam ahead with it.
The weather is unusually cold for LA--highs somewhere in the fifties, and not supposed to get any warmer all week, which is fine by me. I am wearing BPAL Gelt, which is very chocolatey and is making me crave chocolate.
