Joanna Russ has been admitted to hospice after a series of strokes.
Joanna Russ's work has been important to me for such a long time. I think I was still in my teens when I first read her How To Suppress Women's Writing, and I suspect I know much of it by heart. (I remember showing this book to a (white male) writer friend of my dad's when I was in college, and he, no lie, threw the book to the ground!)
It's hard to imagine losing such an utterly irreplaceable writer and thinker.

Date: 2011-04-29 06:40 am (UTC)I love How to Suppress Women's Writing but for some reason I've never read anything else of hers. I need to do something about that.
