From Yahoo! News: "George Bush revealed in a speech today that a building in downtown Los Angeles was evidently the target of an Al Qaeda plot hatched in 2001. The building he named, 'the Liberty Tower in Los Angeles,' does not exist.
There is, however, a building which matches Bush's description of the 'the tallest building on the West Coast.' It is the Library Tower, not the Liberty Tower." Does Bush -- even though he's married to a former librarian -- have some aversion to libraries, and the word just couldn't come out?
The plot was apparently derailed way back in 2002, and I'm sure Bush announcing this news now has nothing to do with trying to deflect attention from the wiretapping scandal, the war in Iraq, etc...
(Also, the mastermind of the plot has clearly never spent any time in LA. Yeah, destroying a tall building in LA would be terrifying, but to say that LA is not centered around its downtown area would be an understatement.)
ETA: Growing questions about whether Bush lied today about the supposed threat to LA that he supposedly foiled (thanks to
