Today I:

Worked on chapter eight of the Jo book. The chapter's nearing completion. Research revealed yet another cool thing that happened in NYC in 1975: Ntozake Shange had just moved back to the east coast from San Francisco and was performing an early version of For Colored Girls at Studio Rivbea (legendary jazz loft in Soho). I'd love to work that into the novel somehow.

Made a handful of phone calls to Ohio for the Obama campaign. I had a nice chat with an Obama supporter in Cincinnati.

Went to Trader Joe's again, where I bought Riesling and cheese and apples and a few other things.

Read some more of The Diary of a Provincial Lady, as well as various election stuff on the web.

Went to Skylight Books for the second weekend in a row, where I bought the new Best American Short Stories and Best American Political Writing. I really should stop buying books--oh, who am I kidding?

McCain's camp ought to have thought twice before they played the "guilt by association" card (Obama "palling around with terrorists," indeed--he was eight years old when former Weatherman Bill Ayers was committing said acts). One would think a member of the Keating 5 would remember that adage about glass houses and stones.

And so, the Obama campaign lays the smackdown.

Tuesday night's debate should be real interesting...
