McCain's camp ought to have thought twice before they played the "guilt by association" card (Obama "palling around with terrorists," indeed--he was eight years old when former Weatherman Bill Ayers was committing said acts). One would think a member of the Keating 5 would remember that adage about glass houses and stones.

And so, the Obama campaign lays the smackdown.

Tuesday night's debate should be real interesting...

As one commenter on a political blog put it, the BIG thing is that a) Tom Brokaw in Tuesday's debate cannot now ask Obama about Ayers if he doesn't ask McCain about Keating, and b) the argument of the video appears to be that McCain's economic policies are the same now as they were then, at the time of the S&L crash. This is very, very smart. ;-)

I was a bit worried at first that voters would be turned off by "negative campaigning," but it's not as if the Keating mess isn't completely relevant to what's happening now...

Exactly. And it's not as if the McCain campaign is claiming that all the students Ayers currently teaches at the University of Illinois are "palling around with terrorists." It's so moronic.

About damn time. I figured that had to come out at some point, and this is the *perfect* time because those were criminal cases, and McCain was up to his ass in that one. And it'll remind people that, for they'd like us to believe they're the grownups, republicans always manage to bring recessions.
