The Hedgehog and the Pine Cone

Taking a break from coronavirus fear and Super Tuesday frenzy to report that my story "The Hedgehog and the Pine Cone," originally published in Lackington's and reprinted in People Change, appears in the new issue of Zooscape.

The other night I watched the Fritz Lang film Secret Beyond the Door (1947). Joan Bennett and Michael Redgrave are great in it, and I was totally on board for a 1940s update of the Bluebeard story...until the resolution, which had me protesting: That is not how misogyny works, and it's not how psychoanalysis works either.

OMG, check out the Variety 1947 review: "Film carries the Diana Productions label, a combo of Walter Wanger, Fritz Lang and Joan Bennett who have been responsible for several other Diana thrillers. It is arty, with almost surrealistic treatment in camera angles, story-telling mood and suspense, as producer-director Lang hammers over his thrill points."

Accurate! It is beautifully done, aside from its ridiculous resolution...

Hmm, does everything seem to be pointing to his wanting to kill her and then there's a moment when his True Love is revealed, as he dies saving her life? (I haven't seen it.)
