Yeah, it's gotten beyond disturbing. I knew this was out there, experienced it growing up. But this iteration is chilling. What happened to make these people feel as though it's safe to spew this stuff here?

It's very ugly, that's for sure. I don't know why these people think it's okay to say these things - except perhaps that communicating online, with its near-anonymity, can make people feel much freer to let loose.

What's so depressing is not only the stupidity of the initial comments, but the fact that the standard of debate is so low now that all the threads just seem to devolve into name-calling. Just not even worth wasting your time with..
