I'm so pleased to learn that One Life To Live headwriter Ron Carlivati is set to join the General Hospital writing team after OLTL wraps. Carlivati is by far the most talented headwriter currently writing for daytime (plus he was a protege of Claire Labine, creator of Ryan's Hope and headwriter of GH during its last great era). I hope he will quickly get promoted to headwriter or at least co-headwriter.

I still wish OLTL were not being cancelled. Besides, GH's days may well be numbered anyway, but if it must go out, I would rather it go out in top form.

Good thoughts sent to the last ABC soap standing -- I hope this is a good sign.

I'm thinking about rereading Robert C Allen's book about soap opera, just to understand what's about to be lost. (Y&R and B&B notwithstanding.)

Of course just as I posted, I saw the latest soap opera ratings: GH is dead last in households and total viewers! Yikes. I hope Garin Wolf (and then Ron Carlivati, when he goes to GH) will help matters.

I am really liking the burgeoning Kristina/Ethan storyline on GH (daughter of Sonny/Alexis + son of Luke/Holly!), and I'm hoping that may boost the ratings. But it does seem like saving the genre is a losing battle at the moment.

I am *so* sad that all my soaps are leaving :( I've been an ABC viewer for over 30 years. Mummy and I used to watch AMC together. I've loved GH for years and I'm loving OLTL.

I'm so sad about it, too! I've been an ABC viewer since Luke & Laura's summer on the run in 1980. OLTL is so great right now--it just isn't fair that it isn't getting a reprieve. I hope GH at least can be saved.
