henna day post

It is Henna Day, on a rather chilly day in L.A. This weekend I've been working on the Jo book (yay) and doing my taxes (bleh).
Yesterday I drove to It's a Wrap! in Burbank to see their newly acquired wardrobe items from One Life to Live and All My Children. It was fun to see things like Dorian Lord's glamorous gown and Adam Chandler's silk pajamas, but it was a little sad too. On the way home I stopped at Brand Books and got a used copy of Laurie R. King's A Letter of Mary.
General Hospital is vastly improved after less than a week of Ron Carlivati's writing. It's been fun to see him throwing plot twists at previously boring stories (the Woman in White story, thankfully soon to be concluded), throwing subtle writing at previously cartoonish villains (Anthony Zacchara), in general picking up the pace and writing character-driven stories that allow GH's fine actors (stuck with crap writing for many months) to shine again. Finola Hughes, Jason Thompson, and John J. York have been especially marvelous, but Maurice Benard has stopped phoning it in, and Bruce Weitz finally gets to do more than gnash the scenery. And soon Tristan Rogers, Emma Samms, Roger Howarth, and Kassie DePaiva will show up!
Meanwhile, on Days of Our Lives, Will's coming-out story finally went into high gear. Will got drunk and kissed a boy--but instead of the tepid kiss most people were expecting (Days having never done a gay storyline before), the show went for it. Will and the guy were still making out after the commercial break. Heck, they were still making out at the beginning of the next episode. Good going, Days!
