All Is Vanity

Finished reading All Is Vanity yesterday...the author's attention to fine detail is breathtakingly good, and the book was a compulsive read, but the stupidity of the characters made me cringe. Their idiotic actions, especially towards the end, almost strained credibility, but in any case it was painful to read, even in the context of a comedic novel. It makes me realize I don't often want to read a novel when the characters are this unsympathetic, even when it's beautifully written...
