So far I am really enjoying my holiday weekend. The weather's still hot, but not oppressively so, and the sky is blue, not smoke-colored, and the air is air-like again. To my surprise, the painters showed up today, but maybe the Garage Kitty is getting used to them, because this afternoon she peeked out from under a car to loudly meow for food in spite of their presence. I must admit that the building is starting to look very nice with the fresh coat o'paint.

I've been working on chapter 17, which keeps pulling me in. Stuff happens in it that I wasn't expecting, which is always nice--and the chapter is a turning point, at the end of which everything begins to hit the fan for my poor protagonist. So it's fun.

I'm reading Edna O'Brien's House of Splendid Isolation. Her prose style is so marvelous. I also want to start reading [personal profile] seanan_mcguire's Rosemary and Rue, which arrived via Amazon this week.

Today I bought a gorgeous Italian olive-green journal book with multicolored pages at my local mailbox place, then bought a ton of groceries at Trader Joe's, including cornbread, more heirloom tomatoes, lemonade, and 5 Layer Dip.

There will be a lot more writing (and writing-related activity) this weekend, plus reading and Dark Shadows. And tomorrow is Henna Day.
