Welovesoaps.net has been doing a wonderful series on the 50 Greatest Soap Actresses of All Time. Today one of their picks is my favorite soap actress (and one of my favorite actresses, period), Sarah Felder!
When I first saw Felder on Ryan's Hope during the last go-round of Soapnet reruns, I assumed that when I looked her up, I would find an ample page of TV credits that followed her RH stint. Instead, I was shocked to discover this huge talent had a bit part in the film Wolfen, period.
As Lynn Liccardo says: "Watching Felder's subtle, nuanced, textured performance over the past year (SOAPnet airs ten episodes a week), I simply cannot comprehend why she's not found work as an actor since leaving RH, and instead works as a dialect coach. . . Felder's firing is one of those events that speaks volumes about the real reasons behind soaps' downward spiral over the past 30 years."
50 Greatest Soap Actresses: #36 Sarah Felder
Classic Clips: Sarah Felder
Felder's episodes are almost at an end on the Soapnet reruns, and I will miss seeing her on my TV.
Today's Ryan's Hope made me hungry for an antipasto platter. I loved all the little details of the Jack/Siobhan and even the Jill/Ken George scenes--the antipasto and wine and giant jigsaw puzzle of NYC in the Jack/Siobhan scenes, Jillian's enjoyment of Bach on Ken George's plane. (Shameful secret: I actually like some of Ken George Jones's songs, especially the one he played today.)
But gah! The Jack/Siobhan scenes made me want to time-travel back to 1980 and BEG Claire Labine to let those two sleep together.
Siobhan Voice-Over: I wish Jack would talk to me...
Jack Voice-Over: Maybe we should talk. But then we'd wind up making love, like that...
[glazes over]
No, it would be wrong! She's Mary's sister!
Bed: [leers]
Gwynnega: Jack, you're on a soap opera! It's practically the law that you sleep with your spouse's sibling! Look at Delia! Er, no, bad example...
Siobhan: [awkwardly kisses Jack on cheek on her way out the door]
Jack: [watches her go]
Gwynnega: Nooooo! Don't let her leave, Jack! She's only on the show for a few more episodes. Mary's dead, and she was only awesome when she was Kate Mulgrew!! ABC, for the love of god, don't fire Sarah Felder and recast her with Ann Gillespie!
[jumps into TV set, upsetting jigsaw puzzle]
Why don't you people from 1980 listen to me?!?!
