Last night as I contemplated the end of the Trump administration, all I felt was crushing grief at all the suffering and death Trump caused, and how it didn't have to happen. I remembered how, when Trump was elected, I thought he would start a nuclear war, and how, although I was wrong about the specifics, I was right about the suffering and death.

Last night I worried about what might happen today at the inauguration. But thankfully, the inauguration was beautiful, and I cried for joy when Kamala and Biden were sworn in. I don't think it has quite sunk in that the Trump administration is over. We have to dig ourselves out of the devastation they wrought, but still. What a vast relief.

I keep thinking "IT'S OVER IT'S OVER IT'S OVER" when in a sense of course it's not over at all, it's just beginning (especially shit like REUNITING ALL THOSE KIDS WITH THEIR PARENTS, and the FUCKING PANDEMIC). But at least the total nightmare of being at his nonexistent mercy all day every day is over. When his Twitter (fucking FINALLY, fuck you, Jack) got yanked it was like a car alarm that had been going all four years was cut off. But this is just like....relief so deep it's almost bliss.

My father keeps saying it's like watching The West Wing instead of reality. My mother says Biden needs more young people and stronger progressives in his administration. This tells you about my parents.

LOL, my parents would have been those views but switched. They both would have liked the poem best, tho. (I do not want to try to imagine my dad's reaction to Garth Brooks showing up in blue jeans.)

I had to work all day yesterday, and I caught up on some of the inauguration in clips this morning. When Gaga turned to the Capitol on "and our flag was still there" during the anthem, I burst into tears. Some of it was sadness, more of it was hope.

[hugs]
