RIP Grace Paley

Just saw the news that Grace Paley has passed away. She was 84.

I've loved her work since I was in my early twenties. Saw her do a wonderful reading at UCLA sometime in the 1980s.

I may post more about her later, but right now I just don't have the words.

So sad, yes. I was just thinking about her the other day because it struck me when I read the review of Amy Bloom's new novel that she'd lifted her characters/plot from Grace's story “Goodbye & Good Luck” which is my favorite of her pieces.

I think my favorite story of hers is "A Conversation With My Father," but there are so many terrific ones.

She spoke at my college, also sometime in the 80s. I'd already read some of her work, so I was thrilled to hear her. And then I read more.
