Yo soy Dracula!
Nov. 1st, 2008 06:32 pmI spent Halloween night with friends in Van Nuys, eating pizza and drinking wine and giving candy to the cavalcade of treat-or-treaters. Then we watched my DVD of the 1931 Spanish-language version of Dracula (filmed at night on the same sets as the Lugosi version). I hadn't seen the film in a few years, and it was even better than I'd remembered, especially the bravura performance of Pablo Alvarez Rubio as Renfield. One of the best Renfields ever! In many ways it's a better film than the Lugosi one (aside from the absence of Lugosi himself), as well as just being a marvelously odd experience seeing an alternate version of the familiar classic.
Today has been rather lethargic, though late this afternoon I finally went to Trader Joe's and did some work on chapter nine. I'll do more revisions this evening. I'm glad to have an extra hour tonight...

For some reason it just makes me absurdly happy.
(I found all this b/c he apparently did the cover for Kage Baker's 'Black Projects, White Knights,' and someone at Amazon.com put up an image of that without the lettering and a link to his website, and, omg! I love teh intra-netz!)
