Mary: Tom and I have an intense sexual attraction!
Gwynnega: Ha! You tell him, Mary!! I can't for the life of me remember how you and Jack reconcile amid all this sniping.
Jack: [lets slip he cares about baby Ryan]
Mary: [stunned]
Gwynnega: Oh, NOW I remember!
Jack: [is adorably proud-father-ish]
Mary: [melts]
Gwynnega: Okay, I give! I give! You guys are adorable.Though I still wish you'd chosen Tom, Mary.
We're nearing the end of Mulgrew's stint on Ryan's Hope and will soon be languishing in Mary-recast-ville (though that means Siobhan #1 will show up!). Mulgrew and Labine/Meyer had wanted to kill off Mary when Kate left the show, but the network refused, not realizing how utterly unrecastable she was until they'd tried THREE recasts! I'm wondering, was Labine/Meyer's original plan for Mary to get caught in the crossfire of Tom's Irish Troubles (since the mob was nowhere to be found on the canvas in 1977)? It sure seems like they were setting up for that to happen. Years later, in 1983, Labine wrote a terrific story in which Frank was targeted for revenge by an Irish family who had a score to settle with Maeve...
